On Sunday, after trying my luck via e-mail for over a week, I was able to setup a schedule with 2K Games to visit their booth and check out both Borderlands 2 and Xcom Enemy Unknown. Both games were pretty fun, but I had a personal favorite for Xcom Enemy Unknown, as the story and graphics felt far more compelling and more immersive. Both games each have their own appeal, and were fun to check out!
Xcom Enemy Unknown and Borderlands 2 are out now!
Borderlands 2 furthers the distinct blending of First Person Shooter and Role Playing genres to create the true evolution of the Role Playing Shooter. Team up with up to three other players for four-player online goodness or go old-school with two-player split-screen couch sharing mayhem as you spend hours leveling up your character and equipping them with one of the millions of badass weapons. Borderlands 2 features a new visually stunning array of procedurally generated guns, shields, grenades, artifacts, enemies and more. Choose one of the four new character classes to be taken through a carefully crafted and connected story to all new and surprising environments across the living planet of Pandora. Make new friends, arm them to the teeth and fight alongside them on your relentless quest for revenge and redemption.

Expose the evil surrounding the Hyperion Corporation and take on the perpetrator of a universe-wide grand deception — the nefarious Hyperion CEO, Handsome Jack. (Oh, also: he’s stolen credit for the opening of the Vault.)
New Badass Gun System: An entirely new take on the groundbreaking procedural system means millions upon millions of possible weapons. The variety and style of guns in Borderlands 2 is staggering, and you’ll see tons of new and innovative ways to engage foes on Pandora. Fire, electricity, corrosive acid, and much more will all be at your disposal as you fight your way through the Hyperion Corporation’s forces!

Later on, as I was walking around the convention center, I came across the SEGA booth. They were host to numerous games, even a Sonic game from quite some years back. I was able to speak with some SEGA representatives and introduced to their game Aliens: Colonial Marines.
I was put into the action of their Multiplayer mode where I with a team of human players, who had to get through sections of what looked to be a human base setup within the Alien world. We had to work together in order to survive and make it away from our predators, which were controlled by another team. We went down 1 by 1, myself and another team mate first, then slowly the rest of our squad.
The game looks amazing, and the multiplayer is very fun! I can’t wait to see how it develops over the coming months until its release in early 2013.

Lastly, I was introduced to the game Jack Lumber, an iPad game, where you play as Jack, and you must chop, of course, lumber. The game seems as if it might be fast-paced at first, until, when lumber in thrown up into the air, you place your finger onto the iPad and time slows down, giving you the much needed time that you need to cut pieces of wood in the correct directions all the while avoiding woodland animals.
The game plays well, looks great, and has some cute looking woodland animals. Check it out, and see what you think!
“JACK LUMBER” FROM OWLCHEMY LABS BRANCHES OUT ONTO iOS
Indie-friendly SEGA Alliance publishes its first title
BOSTON – August 16, 2012 – Owlchemy Labs is pleased to announce the release of their latest absurd iOS title, Jack Lumber. Like most lumberjacks, titular character Jack Lumber has supernatural powers. His granny was killed by a tree, and he naturally ‘arbor’s’ quite a hatred for the forest. Players will massacre the forest in this time-warping line-drawing granny-avenging pun-filled mashup from Owlchemy Labs, the makers of the award-winning Snuggle Truck.
Jack Lumber is the first title from SEGA’s new publishing initiative, SEGA Alliance. The SEGA Alliance will focus on publishing mobile games made by independent developers.
“SEGA has been a major player in the mobile games landscape for years and we’ve had tremendous success bringing our iconic franchises to smartphones and tablets,” said Chris Olson, Vice President of Digital Business at SEGA. “With SEGA Alliance, we’re looking forward to sharing that success with talented developers like Owlchemy Labs by introducing new and unique games, such as Jack Lumber, to the market. Now if you excuse me, I have some trees to destroy.”
“We’re very excited about being the first developer to partner with SEGA Alliance,” said Alex Schwartz, Chief Scientist at Owlchemy Labs. “We’ll be able to introduce “Jack Lumber” to a much wider audience than we originally hoped to thanks to the resources provided by SEGA Alliance. It was the opposite of dealing with a lumbering bureaucracy, giving us more time to chop away at “Jack Lumber” and not mill about. Now Jack Lumber will branch out across mobile devices with the speed of a lumberjack with an axe to grind.”
Jack Lumber is available on the iTunes App Store for $1.99,

While walking around PAX, I was stopped by one of the representatives of Taitale Studios for their game Novus Aeterno. I was unable to find any time to play the game while I was there over the weekend, but the game appears to be well designed, and because it’s an RTS title, looks to be fun and competitive for those who are fans of the RTS Genre.
Novus Aeterno is a full Real Time Strategy (RTS) game that takes place in a massive and seamless galaxy full of great opportunities and challenging threats. Players familiar to RTS games will be able to grasp the controls and layout to get right into the action of Novus Aeterno.
The story of Novus Aeterno begins within the aftermath of a catastrophic destruction of the main five empires that had dominated the galaxy. The Verunas, Azsendi, Acaean, Cauldron Born, and our own Human civilisations had reached a high point in domination over their portions of the galaxy. The old empires are now no more and the galaxy is without any stable authority. The player can now enter the scene and determine the course of events between the conflict of various factions and the persistent outcome of further events.
Being true to an MMORTS, Novus Aeterno will have no match making. Competition between players and natural threats can happen anywhere within the massive scale of the galaxy that will be connected by no loading screens. With this open galaxy players can explore a full galaxy without restraint; through war and peace you can experience the entire battlefield!
Forming Alliances with other players will allow a group of players to take on large threats and to take on other Alliances to have large scale battles between each other within the full open galaxy. These battles can be Free for all battles as well as team battles; depending on your choice to ambush, jump into a dog pile of a battle, or dig in to defend a choke point. Your tactical options will not be limited.
About Taitale Studios
A startup indie team has announced the formation of Taitale Studios, an internationally-based studio working on an MMORTS title dubbed Novus Aeterno.
The company was founded by 19 year old Nick Nieuwoudt, who happens to be a former Olympic hopeful for the South African ice hockey team.
His interest in games began when Nieuwoudt fled South Africa to escape “some serious and violent conflict,” says Taitale chief strategy officer Marc Girolimetti. After settling in Greece, Nieuwoudt eventually found himself competing in several Crysis tournaments.
Nieuwoudt later founded Taitale Studios and hired a handful of developers around to world to develop Novus Aeterno, a game that aims to blend MMO and RTS elements title that the team debuted at last weekend’s PAX Prime.
Novus Aeterno is currently in development for PC and Taitale says it hopes to launch a beta for the title in the near future.
Later during the day, I came across a rather interesting booth, it was out and away from all the others. It was the MOBAGE booth. MOBAGE had two IOS/Android Games on display, Marvel War of Heroes and Transformers Legends. Both games consist of defeating foes to obtain “cards” that you are able to collect within the game. If the player collects two of the same card, the player can then combine cards and create a completely new, or evolved, version of that card. Both games seem fun in their own respect, both are visually appealing, and fun, especially to those who are either Marvel fans or Transformers fans.
The other game, in which I saw, was Hellfire. Hellfire followed the same gameplay as Transformers Legends and Marvel War of Heroes, where you collect cards, evolve, and grow more powerful. The game is very beautiful and has amazing artwork for all the characters and creatures.

Finally, at the end of my weekend, I came to the Casual Brothers booth that was demoing Orc Attack. The game can be played either alone, or with up to 4 people simultaneously. This can be achieved either locally, or online. The game has 4 different “Orcs” that you can choose from, and each has their own power. Some powers, once activated one right after the other, can create a powerful attack that can hit all surrounding foes at once. The game has crude humor, and is really fun and interesting to play through, and is currently seeking Kickstarter funding before a release date is announced. You can help Kickstart this game at the following link: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1577988621/orc-attack-fight-for-the-orcs-against-the-human-in-0
OrcAttackis a thrilling 3D co-op hack and slash adventure that puts players in control of a team of vile, disgusting Orcs as they embark on a mission to crush human invaders. Already a hit with critics, OrcAttackhas won the People’s Choice Award at the Develop Conference held in Brighton in July 2011, and was runner-up as the most promising indie game for 2012 at the Game Connection, held in Paris in December 2011.
Having been crushed and punished by humanity in so many past games, the time has come to let Orcs dish out some punishment of their own against the humans. Players control Orcs with an arsenal of weapons, attacks and devastating flatulence and aim to defeat the evil humans who have come to exploit Orcish lands with a huge army and noisy and dirty machinery. OrcAttackfeatures exciting co-op battles with a revolutionary camera shared by all players, giving an awesome sensation of combat.
OrcAttack will launch later this year on digital platforms, and joins Reverb’s growing roster of titles, which includes the smash-hit Dungeon Defenders, the recently-released JAM Live Music Arcade and Jeremy McGrath’s Offroad, as well as the upcoming Sanctum 2, Primal Carnage, Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller, Black Knight Sword and much more.
