GlomTom Product Review
Written by: Aaron Holmes
It’s not often that Optimus Reports gets to do all that many product reviews, but this one product really caught our attention on various levels. Meet “GlomTom”, the ergonomic gaming pad that will revolutionize the way you game! As a gamer with a medical condition, I have always found myself in various sitting positions trying to find something comfortable for my daily gaming, a way to reduce the strain and pain in my right arm. The GlomTom does just that, by angling my arms up just 15 degrees, it takes away the pressure that runs down my arm when it’s “hanging down” and lifts my arm up to a comfortable height.
One of the neat featurs of the GlomTom is that it also includes an un-zipable storage compartment big enough to hold a game controller within it as well as other smaller accessories, including a cell phone. This makes for quick and easy transport of the accessories from one place to another should you take your GlomTom to a friend’s home or anywhere else you need the GlomTom!
The GlomTom has become one of the comfiest ergonomic pads for someone, such as myself, who is in pain on a daily basis and it has helped relieve a lot of the tension in my shoulders and has even proven itself to even be a great location to sit my laptop when I don’t feel like being on my computer. Created by Clif Chambliss, a hardcore gamer and a father, Clif wanted a solution that was comfortable for gaming. Having tried a pillow to try and get the comfort he desired, Clif took to creating and designing the GlomTom ergonomic pad.
The design of the GlomTom Ergonomic Pad helps to:
- Improve game playing performance and comfort.
- Relieve tension and stress in your neck, shoulders, and back.
- Improve blood flow to your core.
- Trigger your parasympathetic nervous system so your body embraces deeper relaxation.
Overall Product Thoughts:
The GlomTom, which is currently being sold for $59.99, which is the cost of a new game these days, is definitely more than worth the purchase especially if you’re looking for comfort. The GlomTom pad is soft, supportive, and a great accessory for any gamer who loves being ergonomically comfortable. The GlomTom, which could easily sell for far more due to its overall design, material, and comfort, is also a great value for anyone who doesn’t want to spend too much on gaming accessories which can easily range into the hundreds!
We’d like to thank Clif and GlomTom for allowing our site to check out the GlomTom, and I for one, will continue using the GlomTom for handheld gaming, console gaming, and even for using my laptop!
Interview with GlomTom creator: Clif Chambliss
Optimus Reports was able to reach out to Clif Chambliss for a short Q&A in regard to the GlomTom ergonomic pad and got back to us the same day with answers to our questions! Check out the Q&A below with Clif and get some good insight on the GlomTom and Clif’s background!
What is your name and can you tell us a bit about your product?
My name is Clif Chambliss and I am and avid gamer, owner of GlomTom International LLC and creator of the GlomTom product. The GlomTom is an ergonomic pad for gaming that improves both comfort and performance for gamers.
What makes the GlomTom so unique compared to any other products out there?
The GlomTom is unique in that there is no other product on the market created for gamers that addresses the ergonomics of holding a gaming controller. While there are many gamer chairs and things to lounge in, you lose your arm rests while gaming on consoles with a controller. This results in hunched posture sitting back or leaning forward. Either way, it is not an ideal position to game in, and our arms, shoulders and neck feel better when elevated to a fifteen degree angle. However, there is more to it than that. Having our arms raised, snug and stable helps us reduce stress as our body begins to embrace a deeper relaxation. This is challenging to convey to gamers who otherwise feel that gaming is fine for themselves the way it is or worse yet a pillow would provide the same benefits. It would take at least six pillows to come close to the elevation that the GlomTom offers and that is not ergonomic or convenient. It is not until they try the GlomTom that they realize what they are missing.
What inspired you to create the GlomTom?
Being a father. When my children were newborns, I took the night shifts to help feed and hold them while they slept. This was a wonderful bonding time for me and I also got to indulge in hours of video game time while they slept in my arms. My wife understood this and helped me learn to prop my arms with up pillows to hold both my twin boys and my daughter. After they grew older I was still using a pillow when I played video games. Now an important thing about me is that I’m a hardcore gamer. I want all the systems, the best games, the best TV and high performance headphones and accessories for my favorite hobby. Yet I was using a pillow to game with! I did some research and there was nothing out there to address this, so with some encouragement from my wife, I started GlomTom and began product development for something that would be created for the sole purpose of making something that is good into something great.
How many design documents did you go through before you found “The Right One”?
I worked with a product design team which included engineers and product designers. It took some time to help them understand what it is that I was trying to create. We went through several concept drawings and sketches, and I chose to merge a couple ideas into one. After that stage we went through three prototypes before we settled on what would be the final model for mass production.
What has been the biggest success for the GlomTom?
Two things have been part of our success so far. First, we gained positive feedback from field testing and ultimately ran a successful Kickstarter. Second and more importantly, the exposure and attention we drew at PAX Prime a couple weeks ago was amazing. We had instant advocates which included industry developers and testers, MLG and competitive gamers, full time streamers from YouTube and Twitch and finally the hardcore gamers who loved using the GlomTom in our booth with a 3DS or controllers. Since PAX, GlomTom has become a sponsor of competitive gamer teams, Sony MVP’s and some amazing YouTube gamers and cosplayers. We have a free affiliate program which enables us to share profit with those wish to join our team. Just seeing a community of fierce GlomTom supporters has been amazing. Many send in a pic or tag us #glomtom with their photos which end up on our community in Instagram and get featured on the community page of Glomtom.com. GlomTom is not just a product, it is a movement to change how people play games forever, and our community is growing daily of those who have understand and embrace this product.
How many GlomTom pads have been sold, and has the pad been sold in more than one country?
RIght now, the GlomTom is only available in the US with plans to expand to Canada, UK, EU and Japan. We just opened our doors a couple weeks ago in late August, so we have plenty in stock for the fall and upcoming Holidays. I want to say we have shipped hundreds, but the number is smaller as it takes a lot of time to get the word out.
Have you, personally, tried any other product before deciding to create the GlomTom?
Just a pillow made for nursing. Like I said, there is nothing else out there to compare the GlomTom to and I’m not about to keep fighting legendary online battles with a pillow.
What has been the most difficult part of the journey in creating the GlomTom?
Creating the company, dealing with the legal issues and experiencing the trials of product design, manufacturing, logistics and fund raising have all been a difficult part of this journey. It took about a year and a half to get from starting a GlomTom International LLC to actually launching the GlomTom as a new brand and class of product in the US. It has taken a lot of patience and learning. The journey is still tough ahead as I’m launching a new product that fills a need that no one knows they need! Traditional ads and marketing in some sense do not apply to the GlomTom. There is where our community, advocates and affiliates come in.
Do you have any plans to create any more products, and if so, can you share with us what those are?
I have always had big ideas with GlomTom. This is just the beginning. Talking to hundreds of gamers at PAX has helped me refine these ideas and direction for the company. Unfortunately, I cannot share those plans yet.
What are the GlomTom’s most successful uses as a product?
The most successful use of the Glomtom is that for gamers. With that being said, we use ours with laptops, tablets and books. While I would love to market the Glomtom to these other users, however, my passion is gaming and that is why I invented the Glomtom. As time progresses and the company grows, we will grow the brand to include these other segments.
