Here is this weeks Cosplay Friday feature #2. I’d like to thank both Alex Quintes and Pero_Koshika for taking the time to participate in Cosplay Friday and helping be a part of the success of this segment!
Q. What’s your name, and care to tell a bit about yourself?
I usually go by Amelia. I love to draw/ design and work with makeup as a hobby. I love meeting new cosplayers and learning how they did their makeup, weapons, and costumes (meeting new people in general is always fun). Learning new ways to make things is always a plus. Oh and watching anime on the side is always great, Saturday has become my official anime night staying up till about 3 or 4 am XD. Reading fanfics is something I read too, mainly Soul Eater ( STEIN X MARIE FTW!) but Hetalia makes its way in there along with Eureka seveN.
Q. I notice that you cosplay, how long have you been cosplaying?
I’ve been cosplaying for about 4 years now; just recently I’ve made upgrades to my cosplays to make them “stand out” so to speak.
Q. What got you into cosplay?
I guess you could say I got myself into it after watching an anime and thinking ‘I totally want to be that character’. Once I heard about Sakura con I was hooked!
Q. Do you have any modeling experience?
Yeah, I have a few years of modeling experience. Nothing professional in my opinion.
Q. How has cosplaying changed your life?
Cosplaying has changed my life in a few ways. It has gotten me to learn to sew and create new ways to make things aka expanded my creativity. it’s givin’ me some amazing friends that I would have never met, and it’s also let me be myself knowing that there are SO many people just like me and who except you for who you really are.
Q. What are your plans for the future? Cosplay or Non-Cosplay.
My plans for the future huh? Well I have A LOT of cosplay plans later on. They’re on hold for right now. Right now I’m working on obtaining some funds to go to an art collage for 2 to 4 years and make a career off selling my art and all that good stuff! maybe going to cons in between if I have time, but if not that’s ok I think I’ll manage.
Q. What’s your favorite cosplay so far?
My favorite cosplay so far has to be my “Half Dead” Coraline. Mainly because it’s gory and I get to work with that liquid latex from the Spirit store. Oh man does that stuff stink! I’ve never used it before so it’s great practice and doesn’t cost too much.
Q. What do you think was your least favorite cosplay, if any?
Oh GWAD my first cosplay Cornelia Britannia from Code Geass R2. It was my first cosplay and it was horrible. Mainly the fabric used bugged my skin; it was so thin you could see though it and it was just a horribly designed outfit. I really don’t like to talk about it.. It was THAT bad, not to mention it was my first con and honestly it wasn’t a great experience
Q. Do you have any plans to work with cosplay modeling or modeling websites?
I’d like to eventually but I don’t have any plans in the meantime.
Q. Do you have any future cosplay ideas?
I have over 50+ ideas for the future. I wrote them all down in a book because I would forget a chunk of them. I’d explain them all but it would take to long. But you can ask me XD
Q. How do you go about creating a cosplay?
I’d usually draw out the outfit on a piece of paper and see what pattern or patterns I need to buy to create it. Then I make my way to Ben Franklen’s to get my fabric, when I do that I take a reference photo with me and see what fabric would feel and look the best for the outfit. That’s basically it for that.
1. What materials do you use or recommend to others?
Oh geez ha ha I don’t know a lot of fabrics to be honest I just go by what I hear or whatever I have laying around XD I’m not the best person for this.
Q. Do you have any hints or tips for other cosplayers?
I can give you advice about using liquid latex ( But like I said I’m new so I don’t know how to make weapons and stuff XD) you’ll need lotion, toilet paper ( YES YOU READ THAT RIGHT XD) and obviously the latex. You put the lotion on the area that you’ll be putting the latex, then flatten the toilet paper over the lotion and cut out the shape of the wound that you want. Then you’ll put a layer of latex over that and continue the process until your satisfied. For the blood mix the fake blood and black liquid eyeliner, it gives it a fresh but scabby look to it. Don’t forget to add a few holes. Oh and when you add the holes to get the blood to stay put a layer on that. And Vwala! You have a gory fake wound! Oh and it’ll come off pretty easy (like peeling off a bandage) and bonus you can keep it for next time! If it starts peeling off add another layer around it and you should be fine for a few hours. THIS STUFF IS NOT SWEAT PROOF just saying, so bring a bottle with you just in case.
