A little late on this weeks Cosplay Friday due to business, but here it is regardless!
Model Name: Elizabeth Fuenzalida
Q. What’s your name, and care to tell a bit about yourself? My name is Elizabeth Fuenzalida, but my cosplay name is WolfFunzelda. As you can probably tell by my last name I am half Hispanic-Chilean specifically; which I am very proud of but people often times have a hard time pronouncing it, So when I first met my friend Jeff he actually thought my last name was “funzelda” and it just kind of clicked! Which that- and my love/obsession of wolves is how I got my cosplay name: WolfFunzelda!
Q. I notice that you cosplay, how long have you been cosplaying? I have been cosplaying since 2009, but it wasn’t until this last sakura con (April 2013) that I made my first article of clothing for cosplay, and this last PAX Prime (Aug/Sept 2013) that I made almost my entire costume.
Q. What got you into cosplay? I don’t think I really had anything that got me “into” cosplay, Basically in 2009 I heard about this thing called a “convention” where people dress up as their favorite characters in order to honor the character and that there was also dances, panels, and stuff to buy there. I was told if I didn’t dress up I would feel very out of place- I went (as Tifa from FF7: ADVC) and was absolutely amazed at all the stuff and different costumes and how much people loved mine and was hooked.
Q. Do you have any modeling experience? Yes, I started taking modeling / acting classes in 2009 and started working as a model in 2010. In January of this year (2013) I broke with my agency and am now a freelance model! I do majority free work as I’m trying to get better and build my portfolio, but occasionally I’ll get paid jobs or ask I be paid if they want me to do artistic nudes or something along those lines- Though I don’t do those often because I have some requirements that photographers aren’t often wanting to/ willing to meet (such as doing a clothed shoot/ meeting them beforehand.)
Q. How has cosplaying changed your life? I have met so many fantastic people through cosplay, growing up I was bullied and constantly told how ugly I was and such. Meeting all these new people that are so awesome, interested in the same things I am, and believe in me helped build up my torn down confidence a lot.
Q. What are your plans for the future? Cosplay or Non-Cosplay. I have just started to go back to school to get my degree in radiology: nuclear medicine; once that’s done I plan on keeping up in modeling and cosplay and hopefully building up a bit of a good reputation so I can start up domestic violence and anti-bullying groups.
Q. What’s your favorite cosplay so far? My favorite is a tie between my Lilith (borderlands) costume and my Elizabeth (Bioshock: Infinite) costume. My Lilith costume makes me feel awesome and empowered, but I made almost my entire Elizabeth costume and worked super hard on it.
Q. What do you think was your least favorite cosplay, if any? My least favorite is probably my Applejack (My little pony) the skirt was the very first thing I ever made and it did not come out at all the way I wanted it to. I’m hoping to re-make it at some point and well as shorten the jacket, and get a different wig. I don’t feel I did her justice at all
Q. Do you have any plans to work with cosplay modeling or modeling websites? Man I hope so! I am with con questers right now but we are a pretty laid back group, more for meeting people that have the same interests as us then getting jobs.
Q. Do you have any future cosplay ideas? I have A LOT of future cosplay ideas *laughs*. The next one I’m planning on making though is Aqua Girl (Batman Beyond) , I’m really excited for the two I’m planning on doing after that though which is Sniper Wolf (Metal Gear) and Rene/ Zaukro from Tokyo Mew Mew/ Mew Mew Power.
Q. How do you go about creating a cosplay?
I Just kind of mess with it until I figure it out, or find a pattern and alter it to whatever I need- I’m very new to sewing and pretty much self-taught, so it’s just a lot of trying and failing and trying again until I get it right.
1. What materials do you use or recommend to others?
Whatever you feel most comfortable with I guess… or whatever is the closest looking to the characters costume.
Q. Do you have any hints or tips for other cosplayers? Do your research! And have fun with it!
